Scholarship Information

You are welcome to come to the College/Career Center (room 118) to print a copy of the list or the applications.

If a scholarship says “Received Deadline”, this means that it MUST be RECEIVED by the organization by that date.  It must be mailed several business days before that date so that the organization will receive it on time.

If a scholarship says “Postmark Deadline”, this means that the envelope must be postmarked on or before that day.  We can do this for you.

Computers, scholarship books, college catalogues, etc. are available in the College/Career Center for your college and scholarship research.

For help with your college and scholarship applications, see Mr. Vega, the Postsecondary College & Career Coach, in the College & Career Resource Center (room 118), during your lunch period, or after school.

Seniors:  QuestBridge National College Match offers educational and scholarship opportunities to bright, motivated, low-income students.  Are you interested in a 4-year scholarship?  QuestBridge includes 12 colleges (for example, University of Chicago, Emory, University of Notre Dame, Pomona, Princeton, Scripps, Stanford, Wellesley, Yale).  Apply at www.questbridge.orgReceived Deadline is September 30.

Seniors:  Harvard has a special program for students with financial need.  If you are accepted to Harvard, and your family income is less than $60,000 a year, you will get full financial aid and graduate without debt.

Seniors:  Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, has a special program for students with financial need.  You can get full financial aid.  You will graduate without debt.

Seniors:  Yale has a special program for students with financial need.  If your family income is less than $45,000 a year, you will get full financial aid and you won’t need a student loan.  If your family income is between $45,000 and $60,000, you will pay a reduced tuition.

Seniors:  Golden Apple Foundation  offers up to $18,000 to students who want to become teachers and will attend one of 53 specific universities.  In order to be a Golden Apple Scholar of Illinois Class of 2011 you must agree to teach for 5 years in an Illinois school of need.  You can either nominate yourself, or be nominated by an adult.  Go to www.goldenapple.org for the application.  Received Deadline is November 1.

Seniors:  Boston College, Presidential Scholars Program offers full-tuition, 4-year scholarships to students with outstanding talent and character, striving to become leaders with integrity and vision.  You must apply to this college.  Go to www.bc.edu/centers/psp for information.  Received Deadline is November 1.

Seniors:  The University of Chicago offers 4-year, full-tuition scholarships to CPS graduates.  Apply to the university and fill out the financial aid section.

Seniors:  The University of Chicago, Odyssey Scholarship is for students whose family income is less than $60,000 a year.  You will graduate without debt.  If your family income is between $60,000 & $75,000, you will receive financial awards.

Seniors:  Denison College, Granville, Ohio, offers the Paschal Carter Scholarshp only to National Merit Finalists.  These are almost full-tuition, 4-year scholarships, and a stipend of up to $2,000 each year, and a $3,000 fellowship.  Go to www.denison.edu/admissions for more information about this scholarship and others.   Received Deadline is January 15, 2011.

Seniors:  Hope College, Holland Michigan, offers the Hope Biomedical Scholarship for 4-years full tuition, and room & board to minority pre-med students.  You also receive two 10-week periods of research in Hope’s Natural Sciences Division, an opportunity to conduct research at either Hope College or the University of Michigan, and a one-year scholarship to the University of Michigan Medical School.  For more information contact Stacey Salas, Admissions Office, 800-968-7850.

Seniors:  The Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Illinois, Collens Scholars Program, offers financial aid to CPS graduates who have a family income of less than $40,000 a year.  Your college costs will be fully paid (tuition, books, fees).  You must apply to the college by January 7, 2011.

Seniors:  Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York, offers the Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholar Program.  They offer at least $18,000 to students from ethnic or racial backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in American higher education.  You must have good grades, citizenship and service in the global community.  Go to www.ithaca.edu/mlk for information and an application.  You must also apply to Ithaca College by Feb. 1st.  Deadline is January 15, 2011.

Seniors:  Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, Illinois, offers $12,000 to ALL highly qualified students accepted to the College.  You do not have to fill out a special scholarship application.  Just apply to the school.  For additional information and scholarships, go to www.lakeforest.edu/admissions/finaid/scholarships.

Seniors:  The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, offers the Carolina Covenant to students with a yearly family income at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level.  You will receive full financial aid without taking out any loans.  For more information go to www.unc.edu/carolinacovenant.. 

Seniors:  The School of Architecture, Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York, offers fully paid scholarships to African-American students interested in architecture.  They offer a 5-year professional degree program.  For more information, call Mark Robbins, Dean, School of Architecture at 315-443-2256.

Seniors:  The Medical School of Washington University, St. Louis, John B. Ervin Scholars Program awards 4-year full tuition scholarships, and a $2,500 stipend to African-American students.  For more information go to www.wustl.edu or call the admissions office at 800-638-0700, or call Dorothy Elliott, Associate Director, at 314-935-5875

Seniors:  Student Paths offers $1,000 awards once a month.  Go to www.pathsport.com to register.  Log in once each month and you might be the lucky student that wins the money that month.
